Crew Haven Youth Program Fund 2022


The Crew Haven Youth Rowing Program is a collaboration between Canal Dock Boathouse, Inc. and  the Crew Haven Corporation. The mission of Crew Haven is to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive sport of rowing. Social justice and expanding opportunities to traditionally underserved populations are two of the most important aspects of Crew Haven’s design. Our landmark program was founded in the wake of the great societal upheaval that swept the nation in 2020 that saw countless Americans demanding equality. Similar to many institutions at the time, the rowing community reflected on their past and set forth a bold agenda to promote inclusivity.

The Crew Haven Competitive and Recreational Youth Rowing Program provides cost-free athletic, educational, and personal development services to the young people of New Haven. Launched in Fall 2020, Crew Haven’s mission is to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive sport of rowing. This collaborative venture between Crew Haven Corporation and Canal Dock Boathouse, Inc., offers afterschool, weekend, and summer camp opportunities at Canal Dock’s facility located at 475 Long Wharf Drive in New Haven. Crew Haven is committed to eliminating the barriers that have historically prevented Children of Color and/or those in fiscally impoverished families from participating in crew. We are particularly interested in serving youth who have become disengaged from school, those in foster care, or individuals at risk of or have entered the juvenile justice system. Students enrolled in the program gain access to extensive
land and water training opportunities supplemented by educational support designed to promote academic, athletic, communal, and personal growth.
